Pyramid Peak
BREATHTAKING VIEWS AWAIT THOSE WHO CAN COMPLETE THIS CHALLENGING HIKE IN CHIANG MAI
In the beautiful Mae Teang district, 90 minutes north of Chiang Mai city is a unique hiking experience which passes hilltribe villages, pine forests and mountain ridges before eventually summiting the pyramid peak – a 1300m summit with clear views of the surrounding area and on a clear day views of Chiang Dao, the 3rd highest mountain in Thailand.
The journey starts in an idyllic Musur tribe village perched high up on a mountain bluff with a trail winding its way up the mountain initially passing through farm areas, then through beautiful pine forest. As the trail steepens you will need to do some scrambling over large boulders before the trail plateaus as it reaches the base of the Pyramid Peak. Your blood will be pumping as you make the final scramble to the top for breath-taking views of the surrounding area.
We will take a break on the summit and enjoy some snacks and refreshments before looping back to the village to conclude the hike. The minimum distance for the hike is 10km with a maximum of 23km for more experienced hikers who want to complete the long route.
What Can I Expect?
This is a technically challenging hike which requires a high level of fitness to complete the loop, there is an option to drive part of the journey along a dual track if you’re not confident in completing the hike and its possible to hike up and down the same trail which also shortens the distance. There is also the option to extend the hike if you like a challenge.
What to wear and bring
Terrain is steep in places and uneven so good hiking shoes are highly recommended, a light rain jacket is recommended in the wet season, shorts or hiking trousers and lightweight tshirt year round. Suncreen and a camera and a wide brimmed hat is recommended but not essential.
Restrictions
We have no minimum age, but participants should be in good physical shape and able to walk for several km over uneven terrain with some sections requiring scrambling.
